Zumba Infographic

What is Zumba?

Zumba is a dance fitness class created by Colombian dancer Beto Perez sometime in the 90s. It combines dance and aerobics, taking moves from hip-hop, soca, martial arts and more, with some lunges and squats thrown in for good measure πŸ™‚

I think I took my first Zumba class back in Fall of 2011. Three of my friends decided that Zumba would be their easy ticket to fitness and dragged me along for the ride. At first I was a little sceptical about it because, in my mind, gyrating my hips was fun not exercise πŸ˜‰

I went into the class thinking it would be easy since I already knew how to dance. Turns out, my instructor could shake it better than my friends and I combined! Sometimes I really couldn’t keep up with the thrusting, rotating and shimmying, but it was a boatload of fun regardless πŸ˜€

Oh and the exercise part? I woke up the next morning with pains in places I didn’t even know existed so I’m thinking it was a great workout!

What are the benefits of Zumba?

Zumba is deceptively ‘easy’ so you don’t even know you’re working those muscles and the best part: Zumba is easily customizable so you can work at your own pace! Check out the infographic below for more health and fitness benefits of Zumba!

Is Zumba for you?

Overall, I think Zumba is a great form of exercise, especially for beginners. It’s fun, easy and works up a good sweat. The cardiovascular and coordination benefits don’t hurt either ;). So if you’ve been deliberating weather or not to try Zumba, I say go for it! I’m sure you won’t regret it πŸ˜€
