5 Tips to help you stay healthy while traveling

23 December, 2015 by Giselle Rochford 10 Comments

I’m finally back home in Trinidad and apart from a little post-travel grogginess, I’m feeling pretty great. Usually, long flights and I don’t mix and I lose a couple days to ‘travel recovery’. But I came in so close to Christmas this year that I wanted to try my best to avoid that lost time. So, while prepping for my trip home, I kept an eye out for things to help me with stay healthy while traveling.

5 Tips to help you Stay Healthy while Traveling #healthyeating #healthyholidays

In addition to being dog tired, I almost always walk off the plane feeling sick to my stomach thanks to whatever crap I used to ‘fuel’ my travels. Plus, my skin freaks out and gets dry AF after every flight. Not a great way to start a vacation if you ask me. So whatever tips and tricks I found had to deal with those issues as well. And considering I’ve been up for the last 12+ hours and I’m feeling the best I’ve ever felt post-flight, I’d say they helped.

5 Actually Useful Tips to Help you Stay Healthy while Traveling

1. Get Extra Sleep Pre-Flight

You know that whole ‘I’ll sleep on the plane’ thing? Yea, it doesn’t work. Obviously, it is possible to sleep on a plane, but it’s not the most restful sleep unless you’re flying in one of those planes with actual beds. And even then, turbulence and general noise from other passengers can be distracting.

But, if you get a couple extra hours before hand you’ll be well rested and better able to deal with the stress that comes with a full day of traveling without crashing and burning when you get to your destination.

2. Walk with snacks

Classic traveling foods include things like chips, cookies, chocolate bars and trail mix. Not horrible in moderation, but things can get out of hand quickly when you’re in the air and away from your regular routine. So to avoid overindulging in not-so-great-for-you snacks, walk with your own homemade or healthier store-bought ones.

3. Customize in-flight meals if necessary

I always forget to do this and end up with a dairy induced stomach ache after giving into my hunger and eating the usually dairy filled foods provided during the flight. Luckily, it wasn’t a problem this time, but I still wanted to mention it.

Like most places these days, airlines are usually happy to accommodate people with food allergies. When booking your ticket, you can let the airline know of any food restrictions you have and they’ll do their best to provide you with alternatives. And if they can’t you’ll know in advance so you can make other food arrangements. One less thing to worry about on the actual day and your body will thank you.

4. Drink lots of water

Let’s just get it out in the open: bathrooms on planes can be pretty gross. Because of that, I tend to avoid drinking too much of anything while flying. But the lack of humidity in planes can cause dehydration. And unfortunately, avoiding water and other liquids is just going to increase your chances of becoming dehydrated.

I’d definitely recommend drinking a lot of water while flying. Even if it means having to use those gross AF airplane bathrooms.

5. Stay Hydrated Otherwise

Drinking water is great for staying hydrated in a general sense, but there are other types of dehydration that it can’t help. For example, when I’m flying my skin and eyes get really dry and my hair ends up being a frizzy mess. For years, I took these things as the price I had to pay for the convenience of flying, but there are some ways to avoid them.

  • Use a hydrating night cream or sleeping mask to help keep you face moisturized
  • Use a heavy-duty hydrating moisturizer for the rest of your body if ashy/dry skin is usually a problem for you
  • Use eye drops as needed during the flight and try to avoid staring at a screen or book for long periods of time
  • Use a hydrating lip balm and avoid overly matte or drying lipsticks for the flight
  • Moisturize your hair well before the flight and keep it braided or in some other protective hairstyle to help retain moisture

It is necessary to maintain health regardless of the season. During a pandemic, there are much more risks, weakened immunity + extra stress and worries. Of course CBD https://dailycbd.com/en/best-cbd/ help me like no other to cope very much

Thank you for sharing these guidelines with us. My husband and I have planned a rather long flight, and I understand that if we are not very good with sufficiently short flights, then with a long flight, all the sensations should be worse. Therefore, in order to avoid problems, I decided to look for a solution to the situation that had arisen. It’s good that I found your article and now I understand what to do in a similar situation in order to avoid feeling unwell. Finally, I found some good advice. Thank you for sharing this, this is very useful information. It is good that now we are more concerned about the state of health and everything that can be useful for it.

Wherever I am, I always have my supplements with me. This is very convenient, because with an active rhythm of life, you do not always have time to monitor your diet. Supplements help fill in any deficiencies. I found the best manufacturer here https://prorganiq.com/

In my work and in general in my life I travel a lot. My health has always been my top priority. Since I am attracted to Asian countries that are known not only for beauty but also for unsanitary conditions, it is necessary to monitor their health in doubly. From this article, I emphasized for myself a lot of important and necessary when traveling))) https://puffpuffpassit.com/
