My First 5K!

17 August, 2013 by Giselle Rochford 1 Comment

Hey y’all!

It’s been a while since I’ve had the time to sit down and write a proper post. I’ve had exams for the last 2 weeks and although I wasn’t doing work every second of every day I couldn’t do much more than post some semi-daily fitspiration :(.

But exams are over – whoop whoop *happy dance* – and my time is once again my own! 😆

exams over

Anyway, on to the topic of today’s post!

Since I started running last month, I’ve only been out a few times but I  got bit by the running bug for sure!

I really enjoy running while I’m running and immediately after. Unfortunately, it’s pretty easy to convince myself I don’t like it when I no longer have those lovely exercise endorphins zinging through my veins. For some reason, making the decision to get outside and run is a bit harder than deciding to go to the gym…go figure.

Every blog post or article I’ve read about motivation for new runners lists signing up for a race as a pretty big motivator. Since most of the writers are fitness professionals of some sort, I figure they know what they’re talking about lol. So last night I signed up for my first 5K!

I chose Color Me Rad, Waterloo for a few reasons:

  1. The race is actually in Waterloo. I know myself. Travelling to Toronto or some other city to run a 5K would be a serious hassle for me! I’m strange about stuff like that lol.
  2. I have friends running the race with me. Nothing motivates me more than a little friendly competition, so I’ll definitely bring my A-game to this race!
  3. It’s a fun race! I mean who wouldn’t want to get hit by coloured cornstarch while running in the streets. It’s as close to J’Ouvert (Trini reference) as I can get in Canada in October so I’m not gonna complain! lol

I’m really excited about this 5K and I’m planning to set some goals for the big day!  I’ll put them up as soon as I figure them out myself! 😀

Anyhoo, happy Saturday and enjoy your weekend!
