5 Kitchen Appliances I can’t Live Without

12 March, 2015 by Giselle Rochford 32 Comments

Hey Friends! How’s it goin?

So I mentioned in Monday’s post that I had a midterm the day after St. Patty’s day, but I neglected to mention the two I had yesterday. Since I’m a master procrastinator, this means that I didn’t have a post ready for yesterday since most of my time this week was spent studying. But, today I’m back with another ‘5 Things’ post, this time on kitchen appliances I love.

If you're looking to save space, your kitchen appliances should have multiple purposes and take up as little space as possible. Here are 5 that you need via @ExSloth | ExSloth.com

There’s barely enough room in my kitchen, and I have to share it with three other girls which means I’ve got even less space. So, I tend to be very selective about the things I buy for the kitchen. Appliances need to have multiple purposes or at least do something I need often AND they need to take up as little space as possible. These 5 do that for me:

5 kitchen appliances that save you time and space #fitfluential

Click To Tweet

5. Vegetable Peeler

Is a vegetable peeler an appliance? Well, either way, it’s awesome. I’ve never been a fan of vegetable peelers, probably because I have my grandmother’s voice in my head calling me a sellout, but I love it. I got it from my roommates for my birthday last year and I haven’t used a knife to peel vegetables since. It’s faster, less dangerous, way more effective and you can even make vegetable noodles with it, without using more more and precious kitchen space on a spiralizer.

4. Hand Mixer

I only use this when I’m baking and I don’t even use it every time, but it deserves a mention. Why? First, my mixer is second hand and I’ve had it for more than a year already with no problems. Second, it makes mixing certain batters so much easier. I’m not sure how I ever creamed coconut oil and maple syrup without it. Third, it takes up like no room, way less than a stand mixer would,  which is awesome.

3. Toaster Oven

The toaster oven in my apartment isn’t even mine and I use it almost everyday, so I’m definitely gonna miss it when I leave here. We have a toaster as well, which I use often too, but the toaster oven is so multifunctional. I’ve used it to make grilled ‘cheese’ when I don’t want to dirty a skillet. I’ve used it to toast muffins and other things that just don’t turn out right when heated in the microwave. Just yesterday I even used it to make a single serve batch of granola. That alone should make it the Best. Appliance. Ever.

2. Microwave

This one may be a cop out. I mean, everyone has a microwave right? Well, I can still remember a time when I didn’t have one so it makes the list. These days, I hardly ever use my microwave for warming up cold food, since I’m home for most meals and usually just cook. But I do cook some things in there. The two things I use the microwave for most are making oatmeal for breakfast and melting coconut oil for baking. I also use it to quickly cook things like sweet potatoes and squash for muffins and breads.

1. NutriBullet

My NutriBullet is probably my most prized possession. Including my entire shoe collection. I bought this for myself almost three years ago and I’ve never regretted it. It’s small compared to most high speed blenders but it’s definitely powerful. It also comes with two blades, so I can make smoothies and mix crepe batters with one, and make nut or oat flours with another. Plus, it comes with three cups so I can use it for multiple things in the same recipe. If you include the cab fare I needed to lug it home, this was the best 100 bucks I ever spent.

What about you?

What are your favourite kitchen appliances? Any on this list that you love/hate? Any to add?

Haha to be fair, the time without a microwave I’m referring to is back when I was a kid and microwaves were relatively new. Those were some dark days LOL

I want a nutrabullet so bad! I’ve almost bought one so many times but I just didn’t. I’ll get one soon because I love them! It does everything, plus it’s nifty. I have a couple veggie peelers that I really need to break out.

I honestly can’t even remember the last time I used my microwave for anything food related… I grew up without one so the idea of nuking my food kind of skeeves me out. The only thing I really use mine for is heating up my bean bag bear so I can sleep at night and not freeze 😛 My blender, on the other hand? BESTIES!

haha that’s hilarious. When I was younger we used to heat up leftovers in the oven in a silver enamel tin. Longest 20 minutes of my life, but the food definitely tasted way better than when I nuke it now.

I’ve never owned a mixer (the muscles in my forearms are pretty awesome though?!) and I don’t have a Nutribullet (I have a blender? :D?), but I definitely agree with all the others!

I can’t help it, I have to say that one of the kitchen gadgets I love, love, LOVE is my stand mixer. I wanted one for so long and when I finally got one. WOW. I’m not exaggerating when I said that it took my baking to a whole new level. Things I had never baked before were coming together so much more easily – meringues, macarons, cupcake frosting… it was all working for me!

I don’t think my kitchen would be the same without it!

I always seem to burn what ever I put in the toaster oven for some reason. Myfavorite appliance is my food chopper. Makes prep time so much easier.

I’m lucky enough to have a big kitchen, but I still want to be selective so I don’t have too many gadgets. #3 is my absolute fav from your list =) I love my toaster oven! I’ve had it almost 10 years and we use it at least a few times a week (we don’t have a microwave).
And I’ve been curious about the nutribullet. I’ve heard good things about it – it sounds great.

    Greetings,
I read your article and found it informative and very helpful. I want to add more value in it. During the winter, whilst the climate is chilly, you without a doubt need your fridge and freezer to comply with suit! After all, you need clean elements for hot soups, fruit pies, and mouthwatering casseroles on hand.
    What’s your opinion about it?

To be honest, from basic to advanced kitchen appliance, each one has its own and so special use.
Kitchen Appliances, no doubt, have made lives much much easier. My personal favorites are Coffee Maker, Fruits Juicer Blender and Air Fryer.
    What about you people? xD
