Vegan Coconut Orange Chai Hot Chocolate

This Vegan Coconut Orange Chai Hot Chocolate is creamy and decadent and a perfect blend of coconut, orange and masala chai spices. You definitely need it in your hot drink rotation.
  • 2 cups unsweetened almond milk (I used Silk)
  • 1½ cups lite coconut milk
  • 4 orange slices + more for garnishing
  • 4 cinnamon sticks
  • 6 cardamom pods
  • 2 star anise
  • 4 black peppercorns
  • 6 whole cloves
  • 4-5 slices of fresh ginger
  • 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • sweetener to taste (I used 1½ tbsp maple syrup)
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  1. In a medium saucepan, bring almond milk, coconut milk, 2 orange slices and spices to a boil, stirring occasionally
  2. Reduce heat and simmer for 4 - 5 minutes until fragrant
  3. Remove orange slices (but don't get rid of them) and whisk in cocoa powder, vanilla and sweetener if using
  4. Return orange slices, along with the other two, to the saucepan and simmer for an additional 2 - 3 minutes
  5. Add 2 orange slices to the bottom of each mug and strain the chai hot chocolate over them
  6. Top with more orange slices and cinnamon sticks
